A Mural Takes Shape
Community Preview & Conversation for Public Art at the Sheldon Distribution Center
WHEN: Wednesday, August 19th, 4 to 6 PM
WHERE: Saint Albans Museum, Bliss Room- 9 Church St, St Albans City
Join artist Corrine Yonce, Healthy Roots Collaborative, CVOEO’s Feeding Champlain Valley and the Saint Albans Museum for a first look at a new public art project taking shape in Sheldon.
Rooted in the region’s food systems, agricultural landscape, gathering places, and local history, the artwork will be developed through field research and community participation. This gathering is an opportunity to learn about the project, see early sketches and material samples, and help guide how its stories and visual elements come together.
Join to see and learn more about:
The vision and timeline for the project
Sketches, reference images, and observations from field visits
Mosaic and mural materials being considered
Several possible approaches to color, imagery, and composition
Opportunities for schools, senior centers, community organizations, volunteers, and neighbors to participate as the project develops
Guests will be invited to respond to structured design questions, share stories and memories connected to food and gathering in the region, and suggest people or organizations who should be part of the process.
No art experience or prior knowledge of the project is needed. We welcome longtime residents, community partners, volunteers, educators, students, artists, growers, food-access advocates, and anyone curious about the project.
This event is made possible with the support of the Vermont Arts Council
